I am excited to announce the release of Popular Authors v1.3.0, packed with new features, modifications, and bug fixes! This version makes showcasing your top authors and their popular posts easier, with improved customization options and new display capabilities.
New Feature: Display Popular Posts by Author
One of the most significant additions in this release is the ability to display popular posts by a specific author. This feature is available in multiple formats, including:
- Gutenberg Block: Add the block directly from the editor to showcase an author’s most popular posts on any page or post.
- Shortcode: Use the
[wzpa_author_top_posts]shortcode with various parameters to control the output. Detailed documentation on how to use the shortcode can be found here. - Template Tag: Developers can use the
wzpa_display_top_posts_by_author()template tag to display popular posts for an author within theme files programmatically.
New Post Type Parameter
You can now filter popular authors by specific post types! This is a highly requested feature that enhances the flexibility of Popular Authors:
- Shortcode & Block Support: Use the
post_typeparameter in shortcodes and blocks to display popular authors who have contributed to a specific post type. - Settings Panel Integration: If you have Top 10 Pro installed, you can configure the
post_typeparameter directly from the plugin settings panel.
This makes it easier to tailor the output based on custom post types, such as products, portfolio items, or other custom content.
Modifications
Rewritten Popular Authors Block: The Popular Authors block has been rewritten and now supports apiVersion 3. It also has better modularity and future-proof code, which results in improved performance and easier maintenance.
Bug Fixes
- Cache Setting Conflict: Fixed an issue where the cache setting clashed with the Top 10 plugin, ensuring smoother operation when both plugins are active.
