Contextual Related Posts v4.1.0 – Enhanced Compatibility and Improved Indexing

I’ve just released Contextual Related Posts v4.1.0! This update delivers significant improvements to compatibility, database optimisation, and multisite functionality. If you use Contextual Related Posts Pro and Better Search Pro too, this version gives you shared tables and consistent fulltext index names.

The New Settings Wizard

Contextual Related Posts is extremely feature-rich. These features come with a significant number of options across multiple tabs of the settings page. While I have designed the plugin to be ready to use the moment it is installed, I do believe that it should be easier to set up.

Contextual Related Posts version 4.1.0 brings a brand new settings wizard. Users can run this to configure or reconfigure the plugin. Find the “Start Settings Wizard” button at the bottom of the Settings page.

The Settings Wizard allows you to set Basic settings, Display options, and fine-tune the related posts. Pro users can configure the settings available in Contextual Related Posts Pro and index the post content for the ECSI tables.

Enhanced Plugin Compatibility

I’ve renamed several key constants to prevent conflicts with other plugins:

• CRP_VERSION becomes WZ_CRP_VERSION
• CRP_PLUGIN_FILE becomes WZ_CRP_PLUGIN_FILE
• CRP_PLUGIN_DIR becomes WZ_CRP_PLUGIN_DIR
• CRP_PLUGIN_URL becomes WZ_CRP_PLUGIN_URL

These changes guarantee smoother operation alongside other WordPress plugins. Furthermore, the plugin now handles options that haven’t been set more gracefully.

Optimised Database Indexing

Users of Better Search and Contextual Related Posts will see improved database performance with renamed fulltext indexes. The new naming convention uses wz_title_content, wz_title, and wz_content across both my plugins. This optimises database space by avoiding duplicate indexes.

Pro Features Enhanced

If you use CRP Pro, the indexing UI is cleaner, faster and more intuitive. The multisite settings page has been reorganised for easier use, and you can now copy settings across multiple sites in a multisite network.

Better Search Pro now shares the same custom tables as CRP Pro, unlocking tighter integration between plugins in the User Retention Suite.

Bug Fixes Resolved

I’ve addressed several issues in this release:

• I’ve fixed the ordering issue on pages when the “Same taxonomies” option is selected.
• I’ve corrected post ID handling in the Core Query class when it differs from the queried object.
• I’ve resolved the WPML conflict that was incorrectly showing the current post.
• I’ve also fixed the fatal error that occurred when trying to activate the pro version while the free version was activated, and vice versa.

What comes next?

This release brings CRP and Better Search closer. If you use both plugins, this release makes your setup faster and more reliable.

It also sets the scene for high-performance network-wide related posts in the near future if you’re using the pro version of Contextual Related Posts.

Contextual Related Posts v4.1.0 is now available for download from the WordPress repository. Existing users can upgrade directly from their WordPress Dashboard under Plugins > Updates.
